Father Samuel Aghoyan, the Church's Armenian superior, stated that " It was the first time that the marble have been removed since at least 1810, when the last restoration work took place following a fire, and possible earlier."

"My knees are shaking a little bit" said Fred Hiebert, an achaeologist-in-residence at the National Geographic Society.

A shrine that was built in the 19th century over the site of the cave where in Jesus is believe to have been buried before his resurrection happened. There has been a major restoration on the site earlier this year, since its marble slabs had already weakened over the years.

The broken or the fragile pieces and parts are to be replaced while the marble slabs that can be preserved will be cleaned thoroughly, also the supporting structure of the place will be reinforced.
